Pre-Charging circuit: QS-ESB-300A
The purpose of the pre-charging circuit for energy storage systems is to limit the inrush current that can occur when an energy storage system is switched on. As a rule, an existing DC voltage, for example from an energy storage system or another DC network, is connected to a previously inactive module.
All internal capacitances, which in power electronics are designed to be large and low impedance, are charged with an almost unlimited current surge. This current surge damages the switching element and causes fuses to blow or overcurrent protection devices to respond. The internal components of the switched-on electronics are also heavily loaded.
The Q-ESB-300A pre-charges the switched-on electronics with a defined current that can be adapted to the application by the user. The circuit controls the voltage level of the voltage source and the load and enables a safe and gentle switch-on process.
In the event of a fault, if precharging is not carried out or continues for too long, it switches off automatically, thereby protecting itself and the application. The exact behavior of the switch-off can also be configured. A special feature is the optional overcurrent shutdown. The level and duration of the overcurrent pulse that is to lead to switch-off can be set. It can be switched on and off via its separate enable input, which allows currentless actuation of series-connected mechanical switches.
The Querom QS-ESB-300A pre-charging circuit protects your DC application safely and reliably and can be easily integrated into existing structures as an open-frame module. The unique selling point of the QS-ESB-300A is that it is suitable for both batteries and supercaps in stationary and mobile applications. Thanks to its extremely low quiescent current consumption, it can remain permanently connected to storage systems.
